All Vermont lakes →Fishing is one of the best things in life. Finding the fish is the hard part.
I've been fishing for over forty years: Lake Fork at first light, the shallows at Okeechobee in January, Texoma when the hybrids are stacked and aggressive. My dad got me started when I was a kid, and we've been comparing notes on every trip since. Some of my best memories on the water started with a good tip and the right conditions lining up.
Some of my worst memories started with a stale fishing report. You drive an hour to the lake, launch the boat, and spend the morning throwing at dead water: while someone two coves over is loading the livewell. The difference usually isn't skill. It's information. Water temp dropped overnight. The shad moved. None of that was in the report you read, because it was written three weeks ago.
What's Biting Today was built to fix that gap: for boat anglers, kayak anglers, and bank fishermen alike. A verified baseline report for every lake, paired with on-demand answers that account for what's actually happening on the water today. Whether you're trailering a bass boat or fishing from the bank with a spinning rod, you deserve better information than a seasonal generalization.
About This Site
The baseline fishing reports on each lake page are researched and verified against official sources: state fish and wildlife agencies, the USGS, and local reservoir authorities. Every acreage figure, depth, regulation, and species rating has a source behind it. The on-demand AI answers pull from current weather and conditions data at the time you tap the button.
They're as accurate as the current conditions data they're built from, which is significantly better than a seasonal generalization. The answers account for today's water temp, air temp, barometric pressure trend, and the lake's known seasonal pattern. Treat them as an informed starting point, not a guarantee. Fishing always has a variable the data doesn't capture.
Completely free, no account required. Every lake report, live condition reading, and on-demand answer is available without signing up for anything. No email, no subscription, no paywall.
Yes. Use the request form at the bottom of this page. We cover over 100 lakes across the US and add new ones regularly. Every lake that goes live gets the same treatment: verified baseline data, live conditions, and on-demand answers. No thin placeholder pages.
Water temp and weather data updates continuously from live sources. The on-demand AI tab answers are cached for a few hours for the 'what's biting' tab and up to 6 days for the structural recommendations, which change more slowly. You'll always see when an answer was last generated.
